Hi,
I noticed an amber light on one of the drives on my Dell R710. I connected to it via KVM and found that it was not booted and was displaying this message.
Foreign configuration(s) found on adapter. Press any key to continue, or ’C’ to load the configuration utility or ’F’ to import foreign configuration(s) and continue.
There are offline or missing virtual drives with preserved cache. Please check the cables and ensure that all drives are present. Press any key to enter the configuration utility."
Here is the information displayed in the PERC 6/i BIOS Config Utility:
VD Mgmt screen shows my RAID-5 status as Offline and my 4 physical disks as 00 - Missing, 01 - 00:01 139392MB, 02 - Missing, 03 - 00:03 139392MB
I am unable to expand the Physical Disk section on this screen.
The PD Mgmt screen shows all four drives as: Drive ID
00:00 Type SAS State Ready DG blank
00:01 Type SAS State Online DG 00
00:02 Type SAS State Foreign DG blank
00:03 Type SAS State Online DG 00
What is the difference between Ready and Online? I powered down the server and re-seated the drives. No change.
I read in the user guide that - NOTE: Ensure that your virtual disk has all the physical disks by verifying that there are no physical disks marked as Missing in the foreign view page and that all the disks appear as expected before importing them. I was unable to expand Physical Disks in the Foreign View screen but the Foreign Config Preview Controller Prop: show DG count 1, VD count 1 and PD count 4 for the Controller and VD count 1, PD count 3, and DHS 0 under Disk Group. The Foreign Config Preview Virtual Disk Prop shows RAID Level 5, RAID Status Foreign, Size NA VD count 1, PD count 3, DHS 0.
Unfortunately, I have no backup of this server AND it's critical that I recover it. :)
How should I proceed? Do I try a foreign config import? The user's guide had multiple methods for trying to import the foreign config. Is one way recommended for my situation?
Sorry if I've provided too much information. I wanted to give as much info as possible up front. I hope I've provided what is needed.
Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me.
Regards, Susie
