Creating a Raid 5 on my R520's and R530's

I have 4 machines, 2 R520's and 2 R530's. They are current have a Raid 1 for the OS drive, but no Raid configured for the data drives. They currently have any where from 3 to 6 2TB drives just allocated as one large drive.

I would like to configure the storage drives in a raid 5 with either 6tb ot 8tb drives and remove and replace the 2TB drives.

What would this entail? Is this something I can do in disk management? I do have the PERC H330 raid controllers in each machine.

Help! Set wrong active partition and now can't reboot.

I have an old but reliable PowerEdge 1800 with a Dell CERC 6-Channel SATA RAID Controller (Dell part WC192). It is running Windows Server 2008 R2.It has two HDDs running on Raid 0.

The active partition was accidentally changed and now it won't reboot (can't find BOOTMGR).

I have a bootable utility that lets me change the active partition, but it is saying it cannot find any disk drives. I suspect that it needs to load a driver to access the HDDs on the Raid controller.

Does anyone have any clue as to the name of the INF file and where I would get these drivers from?

Anyone have any suggestions how to fix this situation? I can't imagine I'm the first to be in this situation.

PowerEdge T620 disk compatibility

Hi

I'd like to buy 2 new disks for my Dell PowerEdge T620 (Service Tag: 4FT3LZ1) to replace old damaged FNW88.

I found in local market (Greece) disk Dell 400-ALOO and I'd like to know if it is compatible with my server (T620) because dell shop and local support says that 400-ALOO is not compattible with PowerEdge T620 but in many sites (eg Amazon, ServerSupply and many others) report that 400-ALOO is compatyble with T620.

Will there be any problem with my raid controller (PERC 710)?

Thanks in advanced

PERC 6/i Questions

Greetings Community,

Perhaps someone here can save me some “try it to see what happens” time, and possible grief. I have a PowerEdge T710 running Windows Server on a RAID1 (PERC 6/i). I want to shutdown, replace these drives with 2 other drives, create a new RAID1, then do a clean Windows Server install.

My questions are… if for some reason I need to get back to where I started, I shutdown, put the original drives back in their original slots, power up, how will the controller interpret these drives and what needs to be done for the virtual drive to function as before?

Will they be interpreted as “Foreign” and a foreign configuration “Import” need to be done?

PowerEdge 310 HDD swap using Bare Metal Recovery

I have a bare metal backup saved on an internal HDD, External, HDD, and flash drive and am trying to restore to a new dissimilar HDD. 1TB seagate to a 500GB WD. When I boot into windows setup and press repair to do a full system repair, the backup is not listed in any of the 3 locations. I am only really given an option to install drivers. From reading different forums, they point to the PERC110 drivers, but after installing these, nothing changed. Any ideas?

I have an R310 out of warranty with a failed drive on a RAID 1.  I believe it has a Perc H700.  Can I hot-swap the failed drive or do I need to shut down the server, replace the failed drive and then power the server up?

Hi

Recently we purchase this server and we encounter some errors along the way, we install ESXI 6.5 as our main host and from time to time our servers keeps on shutting down, we already replace the motherboard and still we go this issue, so i go deeply in this problem and identify which component that causes the problem. Every time i reboot the server this error appears "Memory/batter problem were detected. The adapter has recovered, but cache data was lost." I already update all the firmware and so with ESXI 6.5 update 01, but it still causing the error again. Below is my findings and it would be an grateful if anyone can help me on this.Thank you!

R310 Perc H300A- New Hard Drives not recognized

Hey guys, I recently bought some hard drives that I wanted to use in my R310. Currently, I have 2 (dell) drives set up in RAID. I powered down, inserted the new drives (non-dell ST32000444SS) and powered back on. Used Crtl+C to enter controller screen. Drives are not there. I know the slots are working, I inserted an old drive I had into one and it popped up.

The top light doesn't light up on them, but the bottom light is solid green. When I remove a drive, I get a warning on the LED display that a drive has been removed, but I can't get them to show up in the controller. I tried to boot to Windows, and they don't show up there either. I am up to date on firmware for everything.

Any ideas?

Dell R640 drive carriers U.2

Hello,

the new 8 NVMe drive R640 look like a good platform for scale out SSD servers, however the available Samsung SSDs offered by Dell are ultra premium priced and not as flexible as offerings like for example the Intel DC series.

Has anybody experience with aquiring U.2 caddies for 2,5" NVMe drives? I am looking for non-production systems and am awre that I wont get supported with the drives in the machine, but still there should be a option to use them.

I have good experiences with HHHL express cards, but would like to have the comfort of front-accessible drives instead.

I am specifically looking for experiences and maybe a good source for the carriers/caddies and article number.

How do I find the maximum disk size I can use with an xx2x2 raid card?

I have a Dell C6100 chassis in to which I want to install the xx2x2 (LSI 2008 I believe?) SATA III mezzanine RAID cards.

How can I find out (other than trial and error) what the largest disk size I can use with these cards is?

I already have two C6100s running with one 3TB disk per blade (non RAID) which I gather is the maximum for the on-board SATA controllers however for the RAID fitted blades I'd like to use larger disks, 4TB or more, if possible - but at the same time I don't want to waste money on disks that then get truncated if the card can't access all the space.

3 x 4TB disks in RAID 1e would give me just under 6TB of usable space per blade, which is what I'd like to aim for. Sadly the cards don't seem to do RAID 5.  I've already obtained one xx2x2 fitted blade and run it with 3 x 500MB SSDs, so all I need to know is the max disk size I can use.

I've searched Google and various hardware forums but not found any information, and while the C6100 owner's manual I've downloaded mentions the RAID cards it does not specify the maximum disk size.  Is this information available anywhere?

Perc 8 VRTX

Hi Team,

We are building 2 blades (M630) into VRTX Chassis, with Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2, and Perc8 , and both are sharing a QUORUM VD, but when we do any change in one of their, the other don't see the change until the server restarts.  I didn't see any information how to build a cluster with two nodes with Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 from Dell, I saw info about MS Windows 2012 R2, and I don't know if this OS is totally compatible with all VRTX's elements, Do you know if MS Hyper-V 2012 is compatible with VRTX, Perc8?

Thanks

Perc6i RAID 5 failed HDD question

I had a failed drive on a T410 (not hotswappable).  I shut the server down.  Pulled the offending (dead) drive and replaced it with another drive which apparently had previously been in a RAID configuration.  I booted into Windows (SBS 2008) and loaded OMSA.  I have cleared the foreign config and the drive now shows "ready" but I can't see any option to add it back to the RAID 5 and start the rebuild.  My only options on the drive itself are "Clear" and "Assign Global Hot Spare".  I had done a clear so don't know why that option is still there.  I tried the Assign Global Spare option and it told me the drive was not compatible due to various potential options.  So here I sit with a degraded RAID 5 and a drive I can't figure out how to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Raid 5 - No Configuration Present

I have an older Poweredge 2900.  The server shut down due to power loss in the building and the UPS died.  The configuration is 3 drives in Raid 5 and the 3rd drive is clicking and won't mount.

What I have showing in VD MGMT is No Configuration Present.

In PD MGMT it shows 2 drives (01:00 and 01:01) as FOREIGN and the 3rd drive is not listed.

Is there a way to create the configuration again so that I can import the foreign disks?

Many thanks!

R710 Perc 6/I SSD ideas

Hi everyone, I need some help upgrade the storage on my R710 :

I currently have a Perc 6/i 256MB cache with 6 15K 300GB SAS HDDs. I'd like to upgrade to the following config if possible:

- 4 3TB HDDs for storage in RAID 10 (or should I go with Raid 5 ?)

- 2 500GB SSDs for system (RAID 1)

I use this server at home as a test lab and for my home network and I have limited budget so I might not be able to buy enterprise class SAS drive .

So can I just buy SATA drives like the Samsung Evo SSDs and some WD Red ? Will it work with the Perc 6i 256 or do I need to upgrade ?

Thank you for your answers !

We have purchased Dell PowerEdge R730xd  servers. After the installation we can see the Healthy (OEM Partition) with OS drive on One Server and on Other Server the partition with name Healthy (Recovery Partition).

Is Healthy (Recovery Partition) and Healthy (OEM Partition)  have some used and purpose?

If they are different from each other and have different purpose then on what paramets system decide to create whether Healthy (Recovery Partition) and Healthy (OEM Partition) ?

Failed Redundancy on RAID 1

Hello,

I have a poweredge R210 server with RAID1 implemented and I am seeing the following error in the event logs

The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort3, did not respond within the timeout period.

In Disk management, I can see that is shows failed redundancy and a foreign disk 0 listed now.  I have purchased a new drive to replace it but just want to see how to determine which one is the failed disk on IDEPort3 in order to replace? These are cabled hard drives

Also, once I have identified this disk, do I just need to backup, power down, replace drive and power back up or is there a better method to follow?

VRTX Degraded Disk

This morning I noticed there was a disk in my VRTX that was blinking orange.  So, I removed it, and reinserted it.

It appeared to start rebuilding.  I however can find no log of this event in the VRTX CMC.

Furthermore, the CMC still reports the Virtual Disk as degraded, but the Physical Disk (Slot 11) as online.

Confused, is my CMC not working?
