I'm trying to find documentation on supported drives for the Perc H740 controller.
hello fellas,
for an accident, i set to create a new VD using the disks arrays existing (that already had data on there.
on 2% i cancel the operation, but now i am unable to enter on system.
i saw into a other post some guy saying to rebuild the raid array, but every time that i try i got a page saying that all data will be lost if i continue, so i stop the operation.
there is other what to initiate this array again?
initialization say that data will be lost if i continue.
fast initialization say the same.
and Operation status: none
I have a Dell R510 server with an older Seagate 3TB SATA drive that has failed.
It was configured in a Raid 0 format with no backup. :(
The drive makes a clicking sound when plugged in and doesn't want to boot up.
All I want to do is try to recover whats on it.
Is there a place where I could send the drive and see if it can at least temporarly recovered?? The data could be moved onto a newer drive and at least saved. This just happened a few days ago.
Suggestions?
Hi there!
I'm trying to understand how RAID work on R430. The first question is: Why in SATA mode AHCI i can create RAID 10 virtual disk and install OS? In SATA mode RAID i can also create a RAID 10 virtual disk and install OS. What is the difference? If i can also create RAID virtual disk in AHCI Mode.
The second question is: Why in SATA mode RAID the Dell PowerEdge server not see many drivers (even a BIOS!) in the Lifecycle Controller where "View current versions" ? When SATA mode AHCI all drivers displayed.
Thanks a lot!
Eugene.
Is possible, with PERC H710, to replace a (working) member with another (newer) disk, without loosing redundancy during the whole rebuild phase?
Almost all software raid (ZFS, MDADM) does this. During a disks replace, the old disk is still part of the array and is working properly. In backgroup, raid will sync the new disks with the old one and only after a proper rebuild, the old disk is decommissioned.
Something like a RAID1 across a single RAID member.
In this way, you'll never loose redundancy.
Hello,
I accidentally pulled out 3 drives from a raid 5 and now we have drives showing "Foreign" status.
How can I get these drives back online with out LOSING the existing data.
Please help.
Thanks
Hi all,
I have a R720 with a Perc H710P controller running two RAID sets,
1- Presently installed are: 2 x 300GB RAID 1 system (C:, E:) + logs & 8 x 300GB SQL (D:).
2- I would like to add 6 x 960GB SSD in RAID 1+0
3- Replicate my D: on the SSD array
4- Put the SSD array as my D: and change the letter of the array 8x300GB
5- Restart the server, test to be sure that evrything is runnig on the new ''D'' ans that theres is no problem;
6- Erase array D:, and remove all the drives.
7- At this point I will have : 2 x 300GB in used in the server and 6 x 960GB SSD.
After that I would like to extend the 2x300GB to at least double the capacity (and speed) by adding 2 more drives to the array.. since it is my systemhard drive I dont know if it is possible. Otherwise I could put 4 hard drive (or 6 drive) of 300GB in the server, and move my E: which is also on the system array toward the new arry of 4 or 6 hard drives.
Am I dreaming ? Should I expect problems, like replicating the D: and change the letters?
I need to do this soon, please your feedbacks.
Thanks
We have purchased Dell PowerEdge R730xd for Exchange services and are looking to best practices document for Exchange 2016 implementation by Dell.
We are following the dell reference architecture for 5000 mailboxes Exchange 2016 environment. The document is also attached for reference with this post. Servers are R730XD with 16 x 8TB 7200RPM and 2 x 1.2TB SAS 10K drives.
Server have 14 x 8 TB drives for Exchange DB and Logs and 2 Spare drives ( 16 drives in total).
In storage architecture it says (Fourteen independent Raid 0 disks can be used to store copies of Exchange databases. A Raid Controller Can be used to create independent Raid 0 volumes by using internal drives." It says to create a 14 x 8TB RAID-0 for database and logs?
Q: does this mean a single 14x8TB raid 0 group or they mean 14 Raid (Raid 0) group and each Raid 0 with single disk? For reference please check page 38 of Storage Architecture section in attached document.
Q: If they mean to create one Raid0 group with 14 drives then it says to keep one drive for restore LUN? From where we will restore a LUN when, on a drive failure we will lose the entire raid 0 group?
Q: keep one hot spare - that’s understandable
Will be grateful if someone who has knowledge of these servers and storage layout shed some light and provide guidance
Thanks and regards
Hello,
I have a R720xd with PERC H710 Mini controller. Where can I find the Windows 2016 driver for it?
Thanks
Hello!
I recently bought a Dell Poweredge 2850 that doesn't come with any hard drives or caddies (the pictures only shows 2 place holders). I am planning on purchasing 3 caddies and 3 hard drives. The SCSI hard drives on Amazon seem to be mostly Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 300GB drives. I know the 2850 can support 300GB drives but only if they are 10K RPMs. Would these 15K RPM drives work in the server no issue? I am going to use 2 in a RAID 1 and another 1 for the boot drive.
Thanks!
Hello, we currently have a number of R620 servers that came with no PERC card. They have the 4 drive backplane and a connection going from the backplane to the MB (cable is 0PD91Y). We have used SATA drives and they are working fine.
Could anyone conform if we need to change the cable to have SAS drives work? And do we need the PERC (example H710) even if we do not wish to use RAID?
Thank you.
Hello,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R320. It looks like the disk is failing on 1 of the mirrored drives as I am not able to Reactivate Volume and it now says At Risk. This server is at another location so is there a way to find out what the part number is for the drive? I inherited this server and it does not have any Dell tools on it that would tell me what the part number is. I do know that it is a Toshiba 1.82TB drive and Model MG03ACA. Is there any way to translate this information to what the part number is? I would appreciate any help since this a remote system.
Thanks,
Reezie
Does the H710 mini have a replaceable battery? MY R420 keeps indicating that the battery is low. Shortly thereafter, it goes back to operating normally. I have confirmed that the controller has the latest firmware.
If the battery can be replaced, please provide the part number.
I had T420 running ESX with 8 drives (600GB) in RAID-6.
I had drive7 fail. I have replaced the drive, and in the RAID utility I have designated it as hot swop. And after the reboot all green lights started blinking, indicating to me that the RAID is being rebuild.
It has been two days now.
On server all seems to be fine, no orange lights anywhere.
However when I log into the iDrac and go to Storage/Physical Disks, the replaced disc has red circle with white cross next to it, when I see the properties of the Disc, there is nothing obviously wrong with it, state is "online"
Also the Storage/Virtual Disks has yellow triangle with exclamation mark next to it, but the state is "online". Advanced properties do not show any obvious issues.
When I log into the PERC H710 Adapter BIOS Configuration Utility, PD Mgmt menu shows all discs State as "online" and VD Mgnt menu shows the Virtual Disk to be in "Optimal" state.
Why is there the red circle next to mine HD status and the yellow triangel next to the VD status?
Thank you
Mrcha
Dell PE R430 (PERC H730 mini) all drivers is update.
I need change Strip Element Size and Read Policy.
Strip Element Size - how?
Read Policy, I need to change Read Ahead to Adaptive Read Ahead. In BIOS i can't find this option. But if I configure RAID from iDRAC, (where Deploy OS) Adaptive Read Ahead - is appear. Why?
I have a raid 5 (perc h330 adapter) with 3 disk in my server at the moment. I now have a 4th disk of equal size etc. as the other 3, can I add it to the virtual disk using IDRAC? There is an option to convert it to raid under the physical disk tab in IDRAC
Hi,
I have just installed a new Dell PowerEdge R640 with vmWare ESXi 6.5 installed. I have 2 RAID disks. 2x 600GB SAS in RAID 1 and 2x 2TB SAS in RAID1, ESXi is installed on the 600GB disk. I am now trying to add a datastore to the 2nd RAID disk but it will not show in vmWare at all. I have tried recreating the VD multiple times with different options but nothing has work.
Any help help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advanced,
Andrew
Hi, m new here and my english is bad, sorry for that

Hi All,
I got an error: E1810 HDD 6 Fault. The HD P/N is: ST3300656SS which is the Cheetah 15K. I also have the Raid controller as: PERC 6/I integrated(Embedded).
I bought the same HD but it is not Dell and just Seagate. The HD was rebuilt OK but now the 2 green lights in the Caddy are always on.
When the HD works then 1 of the green lights blinks.
The rest HDs (from Dell) only 1 green light is always on.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Doron
