I replaced a failed drive with a WD drive. I get event id 2359 "not supplied by an authorized hardware publisher".
This drive is set up to be a global hot spare, but I am worried that it will not work when the time of need comes. How do I know what drives are certified by Dell? Only those purchased from Dell?
I am having an issue with the R520 Server and H710P mini Raid controller. After installation of the Perc card and replacement of SATA drives to SAS, I cannot get the perc controller configuration to see the hard drives.

We are planning to upgrade our R330 server hardware by creating a RAID 1.
Actually there is only one stand-alone 1TB disk, so i will add another one to evolve on RAID1.
My question, as i know some controllers allow it and some other dont, is :
Is it possible to specify "This is the data disk, copy data from this one" or am i forced to formate both disk when creating RAID 1?
Or in other words : Can i create RAID1 without losing all my data ?
Controller is a PERC H330.

I recently installed 2x SSDSC2BB480G7R SSD drives on a PowerEdge R710.
Those drives are the certified DELL version (part number 64TMJ), not the corresponding OEM Intel S3520 drives.
The server has a PERC H700 controller, and is running Windows Server 2012 R2
The drives are perfectly seen by the H700 controller, and everything is working fine.
I'm encountering problems updating the drives firmware to DL42 (they are currently running DL41) :
I tried first with the 64 bits update package for windows downloaded here www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails :
- It sees the drives, lists the new vs old firmware version, and ask for selecting the drives to update,
- when clicking "yes" to continue, it ends up with a failure, displaying "The operation failed due to an invalid image file" for both drives.
I also tried to download the Nautilus A19 version listed here www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails :
- I built the USB flash
- In DOS BIOS after hitting F11 and choosing the USB as a boot device, it just loads the regular OS. I guess this issue is because this tool was designed to run only in UEFI mode ?
- After setting the Boot mode to UEFI, the tool loads, but the is almost nothing on the screen. I did not capture, but I can remember seeing a "Drive" button, and almost nothing else : no drive list, no other buttons
Any idea on how to update the firmware in that config ?

Looking in the alert log:
I have a suitable drive to replace the faulty one, but I don't think Hot Swap is enabled
It has been a while since this server had problems with the Raid1 array and I am not sure how to replace the drives any more!
I'd like to avoid having to rebuild the array completely and restoring from a backup image.
Could anyone summarize the steps required?

In R520 Server we have deleted raid 1and raid 5 for our internal reason and later created raid 5 with all hard drives. After 2 days we came to know that one folder is not backed up before deleting raid1 and raid5. Is there any possible to restore previous raid. It is really silly to ask this but .....

I have 4 x SSD SAS drives locally installed in my R730 server and I am using a PERC H730P Mini RAID controller. I am creating a RAID 6 virtual disk (ESXi 6.5 U1) and my question is on the optimal configuration for a ESXi VMFS 6 volume. From my research, I believe it is best practice to configure:
write policy: write back
read policy: adaptive read ahead
cache policy: default
What I am unsure about is the block and stripe sizes. The defaults are:
block size: 512 bytes
stripe size: 64k
I understand that the block sizes need to be aligned in multiples of 4k. I do read in quite a few sources that suggest to change the default block size to 1024kb to match the block size of VMFS6? I would like to confirm that this is best practice? And in terms of the stripe size, should I leave it at the default? Any other recommendations?

I have replaced a failed HDD on my R320. I took it offline removed it and replaced with a new HDD but it wont rebuild the drive. The drive just sits in the unconfigured area on CTRL+R and I cant boot into my OS anymore bc all 3 VD are offline.

I have a PE 2950 3rd gen with perc 6i,
Currently i has 2 raid arrays,
0+1 bays with 2 x 146GB SAS in RAID1 mirror
2+3+4+5 bays with 4 x 300GB SAS in RAID10
I need more space so the RAID10 array needs to go, so i can add 4 x 1TB SATA HDDs in RAID10 again (from 557GB to 2TB)
So if i delete the RAID10 array will it affect my first mirror array wich holds the OS ? I never did a thing like this, everytime i started from scratch, removing or upgrading all HDDs..
But now i need to keep the first mirror array, or else its going to be a real PAIN to reinstall the OS and everything it holds.

Does the controller (at boot)keep the serial numbers anywhere?
hi I'm trying to install windows server 2012 r2 standard to my dell poweredge t310
and it seems that is asking me for a multy device driver for the raid controller wich is the sas 6/ir
I tried the perc s100 multy device driver but it just didn't work the raid controller does not recognize the hard drives to be raid or virtualize I run a test on the drives and they were ok
when clicked on ctrl R and create a virtual drive no drives are display on to be raid even tho the Hard drives are shown on bios when booting the computer

I have several Seagate ST3400755SS, 400GB drives that I am trying to setup on a PowerEdge 2900. They come up and look fine, I go into the Perc 6 config utility create a new VD and then all drives go into an error state. I have tried multiple drives of this model and get the same result. Its possible I just have a bunch of bad drives but doubt they would all be bad. I tried some 73GB drives and they worked fine. Also some 750GB drives work fine. Its just the 400GB drives that fail so I think the controller is ok. The drives came out of a EMC network drive system.
Any ideas what would cause this?

Can it support any SSD drives in the mix?
I will be creating two separate raid groups, one for sata drives and other fore ssd.
Will there be any performance degradation if we use like this?
Can you please suggest any compatible SSD drives to be used with this server?

I picked up an R420 that was setup for SATA drives. I purchased SAS drives and moved the SATA cable connection to the SAS controller connection. Other than the cable being a little longer everything it is working perfectly. Are there any interop issues to be concerned with?

I have a couple of R710s in my office and an R410 which was bought used. This R410 has its PCI x16 slot populated with a Perc 6i card, underneath it, there is the iDRAC Express. The machine also has iDRAC Enterprise fitted. I really dont know what the recycler I bought it from was thinking..
This is a server I want to use as a test rig. It currently runs Server 2012 r2 Essentials with Workstation Pro to emulate some scenarios I m working on.
1)I want to free up the x16 slot in order to accomodate a single slot gpu and give the poor VMs a little help with graphics.
Since this is not a production machine and I really don't care much about the raid array speed, can I replace my Perc 6i with the HM030 which I see on some pictures on the internet that goes below, on the x4 slot?
2) When you change the card to the smaller HM030, I see (from pictures) that I will need a new cable that goes from the riser to the two points on the backplane. (Like a mini sas Y splitter?, Excuse my ignorance) Does anyone know the part number for this?
3) Is it ok to remove the iDrac Express and just leave the Enterprise on?

i need to know the reason of this warnings ,how to clear it and if i need to replaced these HDD's what the procedure to do it ?
