Hard drives/RAID firmware update question
We have a Power Edge server R210II with OS MS Server 2008R2 and a PERC H200 controller RAID (two HDD 1TB Seagate SATA in RAID1).
Recently there is a new firmware for Seagate drives on a dell support website (Update Package for MS Windows).
I really do not want to lose the server :), and never update firmware the server disks with RAID (I updated the only drives on PC).
Can anyone point me to a procedure for updating the firmware on my drives ? Any issues with upgrade, best practices e.t.c ?
Thanks for any help,
Marius
Dell PERC 9 Series - "locate" doesn't work!

Dell PERC 9 Series with SGPIO (sideband) support?
Hello,
i want to use the SGPIO (sideband cable) to detect the drives activity LED`s but cant see any rising or falling edges (signal) on PIN 0 as described here: ftp.seagate.com/.../SFF-8485.PDF
Depends this feature in any way to controller propertys "backplane", "directpdmapping" or "sgpioforce"?
What are the requirements?
RAID battery still showing up as failed in OMSA after being replaced
We ordered a replacement battery after finding that Dell OMSA indicated that the RAID battery was failed and subsequently replaced it. However, upon starting the server back up, it still says that the battery is failed.
Now, I have already re-inserted the battery cable into the battery again as well as the other end of the cable into the controller card, but still get the same error.
Unfortunately the server is 8 years old and so no longer has warranty support. What would you suggest as the next steps in troubleshooting this issue? Is this something that updating the RAID controller firmware to the latest version could fix (i.e. a bug), or do I need to perhaps try replacing the entire controller card next?
Thanks for the assist!

What do I need to remove Raid from a Poweredge R510 and use a single ssd boot / OS drive?
Hi Everyone,
I have a Poweredge R510 with the 8 bay hot swap and a H700 raid card.
I'm wanting to use this server in a home media configuration with a single ssd as a boot drive running server 2008 and several large sata drives for data storage.
I'm wanting to remove the H700 card, raid, and make the drives stationary. I'm not concerned about hot swapping or a raid configuration.
My plan is to simply clone the main drive (running os) with clonezilla to a separate drive in the event of a failure or a virus issue on the main drive. I can just re-image it.
I see four-five sata ports on the main board and I am aware I can purchase stationary bays so that's covered.
My concern is getting power to the drives, I know right now power and data is coming through the back plane. But I don't see any way to make what I want to do work. I don't see any loose power cables for the main board sata ports.
I'm not familiar with this server so i am not sure where to start on this. If I remove the raid card, is there a non-raid card available that can take the H700's place and I can leave everything else alone?
Or will I need to remove the back plane and replace it with something else to be able to run the on-board sata cables and power to the drives?
I'm not sold on anything in particular yet and definitely open to any ideas or suggestions
Thanks a bunch
PowerEdge T320 / Perc H310 non-Dell disks
Hi, I'm looking at buying a PowerEdge T320 for a home FreeNAS server, but I already have my drives (WD Red). I was reading that this may not work because the Perc H310 (required to purchase, though I'd have no RAID configuration) won't work with drives that don't run Dell firmware. Is this true?
Also, is the same true of memory?
Drive ready state status and can't change
I have a PE2900 Raid5 Perc6/I SCSI/SAS harddrives are ST3450856SS recently had the amber light on drive 6 swapped out the harddrive with a new one. Thought all was good, but still booting and seeing a degraded warning. Checked and saw the HD 5 was in ready state. I did swap 5 with 6 and now 6 is ready state. So does that mean the drive with Ready State status is bad? The SMART status notes No Error but the Write Cache is N/A vs Disk Default (probably due that it is not online??). This is in my Disk Group1, VD count is 2 and the PD count is 7 but should be 8.
E1810 Error
Hello
We have 2 x R610's. We have had them for a long while now. They both have been used to host a 5 user environment with Server 2008 R2 for the past few years. The configuration was a RAID5
We now want to maximize our potential with the server. We purchased additional RAM, upgrading it to 128GB RAM with which we will be using it to host virtual servers with esxi6 as the host.
We have 4 x 1TB Toshiba HDD's brand new in hte box that we inserted into the bays. We added he HDD's to the PERC card as a RAID0 individually so that we can have separate hard drives. All is fine and the PERC card saw the HDD's and attached them. The server is now flashing a E1810 error for all three hard drives, and all the bays are flashing amber.
We took them out and put 1 into a laptop to test. There is nothing wrong with the hard drives.
We put them back into the R610 and started up the server again and all the amber flashing errors began again.
We launched vsphere client and all the hard drivers were in fact recognized and we attached them as separate storage datastores.
How can we get rid of the flashing amber lights on the R610 and the flashing hard drive fault error E1810 ? PLease help. We asked DELL before purchasing the hard drives, and a support agent advised us that it was ok to use a Toshiba 1 TB SATA Hard Drive
HDD Not showing up in OS
I have a R510 with a perc H700 controller. 2x 500gb Drives set up in RAID1 with Windows Server 2012R2 installed and patched. LifeCycle, BIOS, and RAID controllers all up to date.
I put 10x 8TB Seagate Archive HDD in the remaining drive bays. They show in the RAID controller but not in the Operating System. I don't want to RAID the storage drives.
Kinda lost here, thanks.
SAS and SATA Drives for PowerEdge R710 / PERC H700
Hi,
We currently have a PowerEdge R710 with 6 x 3.5" Drive bays and a PERC H700 RAID controller. We are looking to build a configuration that has at least 900GB (pref 1TB) of SAS storage (10K or above) and about 8TB of SATA storage. We were thinking a pair of 900GB SAS drives in RAID1 and then four 4TB SATA drives in RAID5 with a hot spare.
Is this configuration possible and, if so, do Dell have suitable drives or would I have to go for a 3rd party drive? We have plenty of spare 3.5" caddies but if they are 2.5" drives what is the part code for the 2.5" to 3.5" adapter or would we need a new caddy?
TIA.

Change raid From 10 to 5
Hello Everyone,
I have an R730 running multiple servers using Hyper-V. I am wondering if it is possible to change the raid from Raid10 to raid 5, which out loosing data, and if so how can this be done. As I poke around via the life cycle, I can go to raid configuration and I can select which raid array I would like to use, but I am afraid this will likely delete any data I already have.
Thank you.

PowerEdge T110II - Dell Perc H200
Hi All,
Are there any chance to use at the same time both SAS and SATA HDD on Dell Perc H200 controller installed in PowerEdge T110II ? Currently I have 3xSATA HDD and I was thinking to add additional SAS HDD, so is this possible that controller to be supported that sort of configuration.
Thanks in advance.

Cant rebuild RAID on R520
Hi,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R520 with controller PERC H710 Mini, running esxi v5
it has a RAID 5, 4 600GB SAS 15k Disks
Disk 2 (0-3) has failed and i replaced it with 2TB SATA disk (the only one i had)
The disk shows as ready.
I restarted the server and entered the controller menu to set it as a global hotspare (the only option available)
Then it showed the following warning : "warning none of the existing VD's will be covered by this hotspare"
I tried to set it anyway, after doing so, in the VD menu, it was added to the RAID as hotspare, but was marked as red and showed as : global unusable affinity
Any clues to what the problem is?
How can i rebuild the RAID?
Thanks.
Hard drive for PE2900
Hello
I've to add some hard drive to a Pe2900 with Perc5i. Actually there are some SAS drive. What is the max size for SAS disk that I can use?
R420 PERC H710 Mini Capable Speed
Hi,
I have recently purchased a Dell R420 with a PERC H710 Mini the hard drives are all the same ST91000640NS which according to the specification runs at 6Gbps RAID 10 (factory fresh)
However when I login via open manage its showing the drive is running at:
Negotiated Speed 3.00 Gbps
Capable Speed 3.00 Gbps
I cant see anywhere obvious to change the setting, as far as I can tell everything is running the latest firmware.
Name PERC H710 Mini
Firmware Version 21.3.2-0005
Driver Version 6.803.21.00
Name Bios
Version 2.4.2
Release Date 01/29/2015
Is this normal or is there a reason why it would be running at 3Gbps and not 6Gbps?
Thanks
Chris
PERC H310 TRIM Support?
I am running Debian 8 on an Dell PowerEdge R420.
The OS is installed onto a INTEL SSDSC2BA800G3T SSD with firmware 5DV1DL03. The LVM is not configured, and the encryption is not enabled either.
The SSD is connected to a PERC H310 Mini (MegaRAID SAS 2008), and is in passthrough mode (meaning no RAID whatsoever). The firmware version of the controller is 2.121.14-3811.
I have tried configuring TRIM on this machine, but when I am running fstrim, it is telling me that the operation is not supported:
# fstrim -v /
fstrim: /: the discard operation is not supported
The SSD supports TRIM:
# hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep TRIM
* Data Set Management TRIM supported (limit 6 blocks)
* Deterministic read ZEROs after TRIM
Can you tell me if this controller is able to pass-through the TRIM commands to the SSD? Are there any other additional settings that need to be set?
