I have a CERC 2S controller with drives configured with RAID1. One of the members of the RAID set has been lost. Rather than adding a hot spare and rebuilding it, I want to clone the currently functioning drive to a larger HD. I have done the clone operation several times, trying several utilities, and have included the MBR when cloning, however none of the clones will boot to SBS 2003 -- the SBS logo comes up and then the system reboots.
I suspect the problem is related to drive 1 being a RAID member, and drive 2 being seen as JBOD. The next thing I'd would try is removing drive1 from the RAID config, however, I'm not sure if this will cause me to lose the data on it. According to the docs, there are 2 steps to the process -- remove the disk from the RAID set, then you're asked about deleting the disk partition(s). If I just remove it from the RAID set, and DO NOT remove partitions, will the disk data remain in tact, and will I still be able to boot to the currently installed OS?
