R910 16 drive with 2 controllers

Hello:

The 16 Drive R910 has a SAS Expander with 2 ports, SAS-A, and SAS-B.  Each handles 8 of the 16 drives.  If I add in a second HBA, can I hook up SAS-B to it to control the second 8 drives?  I'm asking because SQL Server best practices are to split SQL Logs and Data onto separate drives and controllers to prevent drive and controller contention.  So I would put the SQL Logs on the 1st 8 Drives on the onboard H700, and the second 8 drives on a second controller to do the SQL data.  Does this work?
